Losing a phone is one thing but losing your kid brother in the mall is on a completely different scale. Thankfully with a tracking app on your side, you will find your car, child or even your smartphone with relative ease. We have previously written articles about locating your lost smartphone and tracking your child’s location but this article will deal with every kind of tracking you may need.
If you are a bit clumsy like me, you want to keep almost all of the best Android tracking app on your devices. That way if the phone slips under the couch, you will know not to blame your mother-in-law of stealing.
Note: All of the apps were tested on a Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone. An Asus Nexus tablet was also used in testing as well as a Windows based laptop running on Windows 8.1. All of the apps performed perfectly and there were no inconsistencies found during the testing phase.
1. Cerberus Anti Theft – Free trial and
If you are going to track your smartphone, Cerberus is the best app for that. Although it can be used for a number of other reasons, it’s best feature is the ability to track and locate your smartphone. The web based interface allows you to access the location wherever you are as long as you have access to another device. The app can connect to your smartphone through the dedicated website which displays a detailed map and the location of your smartphone. If internet access is not available at the time, you can connect by sending text messages. If your phone is stolen, the app will alert you if the thief switches the SIM card. With all these hefty and awesome features, the thieves will have very little chance of getting away.
- Remote controlling via web and text is amazing.
- SIM change alert is pretty cool.
- Start a loud alarm even if the device is on silent mode.
In case you are worried that your sensitive data will get into the wrong hands, you can remotely wipe the internal memory and the external SD card.

When is dad coming home? Where is Mark with that dinner? And where in the world is Sarah at this ungodly hour? If you find yourself asking these type of questions again and again then Life360 is the best Android tracking app for you. - Location is almost accurate.
- Multiple family members on one expansive map.
You will get an alert when a family member reaches a destination. This is especially useful for momma bears who like to keep that rebel in line.
3. Where’s My Droid – Free
Seriously where is it?
This Meta sounding app is a simple to use phone locator with a ton of options. The app is the best Android tracking app if you just want to locate your smartphone in a hurry. Most of the time I leave my phone in the bathroom, but thanks to this app and my tablet, I can locate it in no time at all. The app allows you to make your smartphone ring and even vibrate (which is not recommended as one time it fell from the table). The app even sends out a GPS flare if the phone is running out of juice so you can easily know the last known location.
- Simple interface.
- A lot of customization options.
- Works fast and like a charm.
You can send a text based attention word which will activate the tracking of the device. The text can also be made stealthy with the stealth mode so the thief will never know.
4. GPS Tracking Pro – Free
Tracks like a pro
GPS Tracking Pro is excellent when it comes to tracking friends and family via GPS. The app runs with minimal impact of the resources and yet yields accurate results. This is a great app if you want to know what your friends are up to…no one wants to be ditched right? This app really shines if you are a parent, since it provides minute to minute information about the where abouts of your child. Keeping the elderly safe is another thing this app can do.
- A streamlined, smooth interface.
- The app is very responsive and light.

The app displays a giant map and plots the people on it. It’s a great way to know where everyone is just at one single glance. Now you won’t be the first and only one to arrive at the restaurant.
5. Family Wall – Free
All the baby photos in one place
Up till now we have listed the usual tracking apps but Family Wall is a little different. It doesn’t physically track anything but allows you to keep track of what is happening with the lives of your family. In a way it is just like Facebook or any other social media app, but it is far more secure and intimate. With Family Wall installed on your smartphone you will be able to share information with the people who actually care to know, not the 300 random “friends” you have on Facebook. This is a great app to keep track of what is happening and when it is happening in your immediate family.
- An new, yet professional interface.
- Share what you want, when you want.
- Messaging is fun and easy.
With Family Wall there are no privacy concerns. You share stuff with the people who actually have interest in your life and have something positive to contribute. This is a closed off, more private Facebook.

So how well can you run?
1.a Free Version
Keeping track of your fitness is not only hard but it is also necessary. If you like to run and want to keep track of how much it will affect your body and fitness level, Run with Map is one of the best apps out there. The stylish interface combined with a multitude of tracking options makes this app the perfect companion for those who like to run. The app comes with audio alerts which means you don’t have to take the phone out of your secure pocket to check the target distance or destination.

The paid version simply gets rid of all the advertisements in the app.
7. Android Device Manager – Free
The only manager you need
The Android Device Manager app is made by the same people who make the Android OS and has been available for a while now. It is by far the simplest and easy to use Android tracking app I have tested. I’ve used it for about a year and it’s impressed me on more than one occasion. Android Device Manager basically helps you locate the devices associated with your Google account with the help of an interactive map.
- Locating the devices is extremely easy.
- Can erase all data on the phone.
- The map is detailed.
In case you forget the lock PIN of your phone, you can just as easily reset it with the use of this app. Obviously you will need to use another device to do so.
8. Android Lost – Free
Lost and found
Android Lost wants to find your lost Android device and give it back to you. It’s a barebones app that only strives to reacquaint your phone with you. It gets your device back in your pocket in no time at all. The app can wipe the phone in case it gets stolen, lock the phone or start a blaring alarm with the screen flashing.
- Bland interface that gets the job done.
- Remote SMS alarm, lock and erase SD card options.
- Accurate location via GPS.
Android Lost doesn’t believe in pretty aesthetics. It does however aim to track your smartphone in a timely fashion.

Are your friends secretly trying to go see The Fault in Our Stars? Well we can’t let that happen can’t we? Boot up Find My Friends! And know what they are up to. No more surprise birthday parties for you and no more special “bar time” for them. This app is especially useful if you tend to get drunk and wander off to the wrong side of the town. You can crash parties and be there when your friends need you the most. This app is remarkably similar to GPS Tracking Pro, but that is because the same developer made it.
- A great clear interface.
- Tracking friends is always fun.
- Let’s you know what is going down and what is up.
Get this app to avoid the barrage of “where are you dude?” messages. You and your buddies can take your phones out and know exactly where everyone is.
10. PlanB – Free
Always have a B plan
PlanB is the app you install after the phone goes missing. That’s right, it’s an app which can help you track your smartphone after it has been lost or stolen. This app basically sees what devices are synced to your Google account and then traces their locations. So if this is such an amazing app then why is it the last number? Unfortunately the app is only compatible with Android 2.0 to 2.3.7 which are almost obsolete. Still if you have an older device which you care about, this is the best Android tracking app.
- Simple app which gets the job done.
- The absolute last resort.
- You will get email notifications.
This is the best and probably the only Android tracking app which can help you after the phone is gone. Sometimes it’s all you need.
The Android tracking apps in the list are versatile and cover tons of ground. Apart from finding love (we never recommend stalking) you can find almost everything Android related with these apps. Find your lost car, child or fitness with these great apps. Let us know in the comments section if you have ever used any of these Android tracking app options.
