Math is hard; there is no denying that. Some people are keen on overcoming the typical math problems and practice hard to become better at it. Some people, like yours truly, truly suck at solving simple arithmetic problems.
Thankfully, now lazy people like me have the luxury of carrying the best apps that solve math problems in their pockets. That’s right; now apps can easily solve any math problem for you without the need of even rotating the gears in your brain.
These great apps that solve math problems are not only helpful for those who are not willing to exert an extraordinary amount of brainpower to know how many watermelons did James eat, but also for those who are willing to learn. If you’re a math student that needs a little bit of guidance, these apps will prove invaluable in your education.
I will go as far as to recommend these apps to all the high school math students that are having trouble with calculus and need a small amount of help. Before we go ahead and label these apps as the ultimate math guide, I would have to say that sometimes these apps can be a little bit inaccurate.
No, they’re not inaccurate concerning hard math but only when they are tasked with detecting the equations through a camera. So, a good math teacher will always trump any app that solves math problems when it comes to learning.
Note: The five best apps that solve math problems were tested on a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone. Apps worked perfectly fine, and there were no problems faced during the testing. Some of the apps had a little bit of problem detecting equations through the camera.
I tested these on a Sony Xperia Z1 to see if the problems persist with the optical character recognition, and yes they were still there. I highly recommend using the manual input if you want accurate answers on any of these apps.
This app right here is hands down one of the best that can solve math problems easily on Android. It comes with a very clean and easy to understand interface so you won’t have any problems understanding how the app works. In simplified terms, the interface is inspired by a standard calculator app for Android, and it works well.
If you are a math student, you are intimately familiar with scientific calculators, so you’ll feel right at home with this one as well. Simply type in the equation and the app will solve it for you. For a small fee, they also allow you to see the step-by-step process behind the equation solving.
Overall I highly recommend this one, simply because of its extremely simplified and easy to digest interface. The only thing bad about this app is that it wasn’t available when I was a math student.Show Downloads
MyScript Calculator is more of a calculator than a problem solver, but it works amazingly on a touch screen device. It was featured in the best calculator apps for Android as well as the best S-Pen apps for Note devices list as well. You can easily scribble down any equation on the screen using either a stylus or even your finger.
The app automatically detects the numbers, symbols and variables in the equation and translates them into usable ones. It dynamically detects anything you write on the screen and makes it instantly usable.
The best thing is, after you are done writing on the screen, you’ll instantly get the answer of the math problem you wrote. The only thing bad about this app is that it won’t show you any steps involved in the solution so you’ll have to make do with what you get. However, if you’re just after getting correct answers you have just manually solved, this is a very handy tool.Show Downloads
As the name suggests, this is a math solving application that uses the back camera of your smartphone to get the equations. For the most part, it works fine, but I had some trouble getting it to recognize characters off another screen.
However, when I switched to an equation written on paper, the app fared a lot better in that scenario. The app uses the back camera of your smartphone to capture a photo of the equation, after that it recognizes the characters involved in it and make them usable. All of this processing is done on the back in, and you only have to take the picture.
While this may sound far-fetched, the app is very fast in the characters recognition as well as providing solutions. If you’re stuck in a particularly hard math problem, this app will help you solve it in minutes.Show Downloads
Symbolab – Math Solver
If you have a lot of different types of math problems to solve, this app will most definitely be a great help. The app description says that it is your private math tutor that can easily solve any math problem and even provide you steps.
However, I found out that the steps are behind a pay wall. Otherwise, the app performs exactly as it says and provides a good quality service to math students. It is able to solve algebra, integrals, limits, derivatives, functions and graphing and even trigonometry. So, you are covered on almost every aspect of math problem solving with this app.Show Downloads
Mathway has the potential to be one of the best apps that solve math problems, but it is not as refined as some of the others out there. The app works sure, but some aspects of it feel lackluster and not fully developed. This is the only reason why this app is the last one on this list as well.
I recommend that you try out the first apps in the list and then come to this one if they don’t work well for you. You can easily enter manual equations into the app and get an answer. You can also try to use the camera feature that refused to work on my device for some reason.
It’s not that I’m using a budget device either; this is the top end Android smartphone available, so it was quite disappointing that the app was not able to recognize characters. I also checked it on a budget device, and it failed to work on that as well. The answers are precise and easy to understand, but the steps to solve them are locked behind a pay wall.Show Downloads
These were a few great apps that solve math problems for you. I really wish we had these back when I was in high school and miserably failing math classes. But if you’re a good student and need some aid with your math problems, this list will provide you with some quality math solutions.
