The LG G3 is currently one of my favorite Android smartphones and I’ve been impressed with both the hardware and the software on the G3. That being said, I believe installing a custom ROM can make Android devices a lot more awesome even if they come with the best hardware and software.
If you just purchased your LG G3, then I would recommend installing a custom ROM as not only will you get a different interface with loads of features, but your phone’s performance and battery life will improve as well.
As the LG G3 was recently released, there are only a few ROMs available for the phone and I’ve made a list of what I believe are the nine best custom ROMs for LG G3 right now.
What Is A Custom ROM And Why Should You Install It?
One of the major benefits of rooting an Android smartphone is the ability to install custom ROMs. Basically, a custom ROM is a firmware designed by developers in order to bring improvements on the phone. It replaces the stock firmware of the phone.
If you’re not sure on whether you should install a custom ROM on your LG G3, then the following factors might help you make up your mind.
- Make your LG G3 faster. Custom ROMs come with performance optimizations and tweaks in order to make the phone faster and more responsive.
- Improve your LG G3’s battery life. While the G3’s battery life isn’t bad, you might be able to improve it by installing a custom ROM.
- Features. You’ll be able to enjoy all the new features and apps that most custom ROMs bring.
- Different user interface. While some custom ROMs aim at providing a look close to stock, some ROMs feature a totally different interface and you’ll get a fresh feeling after installing a ROM.
Before proceeding with installing any of the custom ROMs mentioned below, you’ll need a rooted LG G3. You can read more about rooting in this guide. Make sure that you root your LG G3 and install a custom ROM at your own risk.
Both the processes are risky and if something goes wrong, you might end up bricking your LG G3. Make sure that you follow these additional tips.
- Charge your LG G3 to at least 70%
- Backup your G3 as all your files will be lost. You can use your G3’s backup feature or an app from the Play Store. Feel free to read our list of the ten best backup apps for Android.
- Make sure you install the ROM that is available for your LG G3 variant. If you flash a ROM that is not for your variant, then you might brick your phone.
- Follow all the developer specific instructions properly on the XDA thread of the ROM that you’re installing.
