I know there are many lists on Joy of Android that don’t have a clear winner, but this is not one of them. TeamViewer is one of the best apps you can get on any platform for remote desktop operations. Want to control a Mac with Android? You can do it. Want to control an Android with Android?
Yeah, it is also possible. Everything is well polished and thought out, the app works amazing on tablets as well as Android smartphones. I usually do remote installations for my clients using this nifty app.
The best part? It can also work perfectly on LTE 4G connectivity. So, no matter where you are, you can always teach your children how to launch games on your PC. I highly recommend trying out the free version of the app. I use the business version because I use it commercially but the free version comes fully loaded for personal usage.Show Downloads
Chrome Remote Desktop
This is the official Google offering and it works well. However, there is a big problem. I couldn’t get the sounds to work at all on my smartphone. Maybe, I was missing something but it was a bit annoying. The audio worked great on a Nexus tablet so it was certainly a Samsung device issue.
Apart from that the app is as smooth as they come. You will face no problems whatsoever controlling your desktop with an Android device. All you need to do is get the Chrome desktop app on you device as well as on the PC and you are ready to go. Splashtop 2 Remote Desktop
This is a new app that I came across while researching for this article and it struck me as a well-polished product. Splashtop does what it advertises and does it really well. I also found the app to be great at video streaming, which is of top notch quality. You’ll be able to get full access to all of the applications on your desktop as well as check out your entire media library.
So what’s the downside? If you want to access your desktop on the internet, you will have to pay up. This is no surprising though, a service of this high quality will always need some sustainability. So try out the app and if you feel it is for you, head over to the in-app purchases and get subscribed. Personally, I would stick to TeamViewer because it’s a bit more streamlined.Show Downloads
Microsoft Remote Desktop
One might think that Microsoft would be amazing at making a remote desktop app but one would be quite wrong. While the basic app is sound and works pretty well, there is a distinct lack of polish here.
If you only want to access some basic functionality, this is indeed one of the best remote desktop apps for Android. However, if you are aiming to go a little bit deeper, you will find the horrendous keyboard a bottleneck.
When it is not sending double keystrokes back to the controlled machine, it is not displayed properly. That being said, the touch system Microsoft has implemented is most definitely one of the best features.Show Downloads
This one is a bit different, as it doesn’t exactly project the screen on to your Android device. However, it does allow you to control your PC by making your Android a remote. That’s right, Remote Link makes your phone or tablet into a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi remote control.
The app will show a touchpad on screen as well as a keyboard, so you can you navigate your PC without actually getting up. This app is extremely useful during presentations or movie nights with projectors.
I have used it for a long while now and it is stable and reliable. The multi-touch touchpad on your phone makes navigation a breeze and most of all it looks so awesome during meetings.Show Downloads
