Opening your home screen and getting all the information you need is what makes Android so great. Unlike the iPhone which only shows the app drawer, Android allows you to do almost anything with the device you own.
One of the perks of using Google’s mobile OS is having great weather widgets for Android. Sure there will be some weather widgets available right off the bat for your Android device.
Let’s be honest here, we rarely like what the OEM (original electronic manufacturer) puts on our phones. Thankfully there are better alternatives than using what Samsung or HTC has in store for you.
The 10 best weather widgets for Android will not only inform you off the weather at one glance but also make your home screen look beautiful.
Note: The 10 best weather widgets for Android were tested on a Samsung Galaxy Note III smartphone. The phone ran on Samsung’s own flavor of Android 4.4.2
1. GO Weather – Free with In-app purchases
GO Weather is made by the same team whose apps have impressed me in the lockscreen as well as launcher categories. Naturally I had big expectations about the weather widget, but thankfully they were all met.
This widget and weather app for Android provides accurate weather details and that too in solid style. Local forecasts for around 100,000 plus locations worldwide and more than 1000 themes make this app the number one in the weather widgets for Android list.
The app also provides a good platform for sharing weather related photos with others.
- Interactive and dynamic maps.
- Multiple cities can be selected.
- Detailed weather reports.
The pro version of the app can be unlocked by In-app purchase. It will enable probability of precipitation, world clock integrated to show time and weather for selected cities and 10 day detailed weather forecast.
The pro version will also allow you to use exclusive premium widget themes. There are no ads and sponsored messages shown.
Click on the widget and you will have access to a full-fledged weather app. This feature allows you to enjoy the simplicity of the widget with the details of a full weather app in just a touch.
2. World Weather Clock Widget – Free with In-app Purchases
For the Perfectionists
World Weather Clock Widget not only comes with a big name, it also has a big detailed look about it. There are great themes to make your home screen look fantastic as well as provide useful info.
This particular weather widget for Android is so high on the list because it is the only one which tries to jam almost every aspect of weather on a single widget.
I recommend that you deploy this detailed beast on one of the secondary home screens otherwise it draws too much attention to itself. This might be an amazingly great thing or a bad one depending on your personal taste.
- Rain radar and satellite maps.
- World weather alarms.
- Themes are varied and look great.
The widget comes with a photo background which allows you to further personalize the way your home screen looks.
3. HD Widgets – $0.99
The Affordable Class
If the first app on the weather widgets for Android list was best in utility, the second one best in details, then HD Widgets takes the cake in customization.
This is the app you should get if you like to change the way your smartphone looks and keep things fresh on the daily basis. I love to match widgets to the background and even change icons accordingly.
HD Widgets is the only widget app which makes it easy to match the weather widget with the rest of the home screen. I simply loved the way this app handles the customization and frankly it has found a permanent home on my device.
- Incredibly robust customization features.
- Change the weather icons displayed on the widget.
- Almost all the sizes are available, yes even 4×3.
There are some semi-translucent widget backgrounds available. If used right, they can give off an amazingly classy look and make your home screen stand out in the rubble of usual ones.
4. Weather & Clock Widget Android – Free and $2.99
Simple and Stylish
4.A Free Version:
This weather widget for Android likes to keep things simple. Tap the screen, select the widget and 80 percent of your job is complete. This widget is for those who just want a nice looking widget app to show the current weather.
Sure, you can dive deep and find some customization options, but honestly, they are not that spectacular. However the widget performance and reliability is top-notch, hence the high place in the 10 best weather widgets for Android list.
- Current weather with 5 day weather forecast.
- Temperature in status bar.
- Share the weather and location with friends.
The ability to limit the internet source to WiFi-only is incredible. I can’t remember how many times some epic widget sapped my data, thankfully that won’t be the case with this widget.
4.B Paid Version:
The paid version of the app only removes the annoying ads. I recommend this version if you really like the initial free app. Nothing more is added in terms of usability and functions.
5. EZ Weather HD – Free with In-app Purchases
The Easy Set-up
EZ Weather HD is one of the best weather widgets for Android and it shows in its simplicity and style. One of the major reasons I selected this widget is because of its epic looking themes.
Some apps simply change the font style or size of icons, but EZ Weather HD doesn’t take the EZ way out. The themes look remarkably different and add a new flair to your stagnating home screen. From daily to hourly weather updates and auto location updating, this is one of the great apps out there.
- Multi weather data sources.
- Smart alerts and push notifications.
- Will support Android L.
The Quick Action feature of the app allows you to map different apps to the corners of the widget. For example you can assign the top-left corner to calendar and so on.
6. Aix Weather Widget – Free and $1.49
Straight as an Arrow
6.A Free Version:
Aix Weather Widget is simple and minimalistic. There are no fancy options here and the widget just shows a simple graph with current temperature.
With many weather widgets for Android taking the fancy route, it is refreshing to see such a straight forward and simple widget. You just need to enter your location and you are good to go.
- Extremely easy to set up.
- No confusing options.
- Simple weather display and good graph.
There is only one size option for this widget. This is great for users who get confused over the sizes and placement.
6.B Paid Version:
The paid version is only there for making donations to the developer. Every feature is already available in the free version of the app. If you like what this widget has to offer, kindly show your support by donating.
7. Transparent Clock & Weather – Free
See the Background
While an actual transparent clock and weather widget might be useless, the mischievously named app doesn’t actually feature an invisible clock and weather widget.
The widget however comes with a clear background allowing the information to merge with whatever wallpaper you are using.
- A good-looking weather interface.
- Tap and get more details.
- 3 different sizes available.
Apart from feature multiple themes and icon skins the widget comes with different fonts as well. The app is also capable of displaying the next alarm and calendar event.
8. Sense Flip Clock & Weather – Free
This widget will seem all too similar to HTC fans; this is because it totally takes inspiration from Sense widget featured on HTC smartphones. I really love that old school flip mechanic of the HTC original and am glad that the option exists to get it on my Samsung devices as well.
- Flip animations look great.
- Weather icons are lavish.
- Comes in 3 widget sizes.
You can set the automatic weather update interval. If you want regular updates you can set the widget to update every 15 min.
9. Weather Live – Free and $2.99
Big and Bold Ones
9.A Free Version
WeatherLive has some of the best looking weather widgets, the variety is amazing and so are the widgets. I especially loved the fully round weather widget, which is shown in the screenshot above.
It breaks the usual norm and gives all the info I need right at one convenient place. The widget also provides weather forecasts for multiple locations all around the world.
- Great collection of widgets.
- Easy to set-up.
- Cloud, rain and satellite maps.
The app comes with animated live wallpaper. The live weather scenes reflect real-time weather conditions, which looks awesome.
9.B Paid Version
The paid app is actually quite powerful since it adds plenty of features like additional wind speeds and more satellite imaging.
10. Beautiful Widgets – Free and $2.69
Beauty is Never Free
10.A Free Version:
I’ll be straightforward with this app. It used to be a great free weather widget for Android but now it is certainly not that great. Sure the free version will allow you to have some extremely basic functionality but it is more restricting than liberating.
The free version is only recommended to try out the app’s feel, if you want anything more you will need to get the paid version.
- Themes look great.
- Complete clocks are available.
- Weather forecasts are quite accurate.
Beautiful Widgets used to be my go to weather widget app for tablets. That is because it supports natively large (6 x 4, 6 x 3 etc.) sizes. Thankfully the app still retains this functionality.
10.B Paid Version:
This is the real version of Beautiful Widgets and it is beautiful! Download as many themes as you want, enjoy the interactive wallpaper, receive weather notifications from around the world and get weather animations. If you have the means, go for the paid version.
With any of these 10 best weather widgets for Android installed, you will be on top of your game every day. No need to get caught in unexpected rain and ruin a perfectly great suit. Combine these with the best weather apps for Android and you have a weather team working for you!
