Find the Best Flashlight App for Android and Light your World

A flashlight app for Android can be very useful in many situations. Let’s say you are in a dark room and lost something (possibly a key) accidentally. You can easily use a flashlight app for Android in order to find that lost object.

Maybe you are in a party and want to add some disco light effect to make it more enjoyable. You can use any good flashlight application from the Google Play Store and use your smartphone’s screen to display different colors.

Some flashlight apps for Android offer SOS and Morse code features. Using this function, you can send secret messages to your friends or to the police in case of an emergency (maybe, after getting kidnapped?!).

Caution: Many famous flashlight applications need “Share your Location” permission to be downloaded on your device. Did you ever wonder why a simple flashlight app for Android needs to track your location? According to Forbes and Guardian, one very famous flashlight application, Brightest Flashlight, which has been downloaded millions of times on the Google Play Store, allegedly collects personal user data and shares it with advertisers.

After researching some more, we found out that not only “Brightest Flashlight” but many other flashlight applications are using the same method to monetize their applications. A healthy competition between developers is good for the end user but some developers are taking the wrong route to one up their competitors. This is totally unacceptable.

We respect our readers’ privacy. So, we have deliberately ignored those flashlight applications that are suspicious and compiled only those applications that are safe and easy to use.

Note: We used a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to test these applications. These flashlight applications work well on any Android smartphone. Just make sure that your smartphone fulfills the minimum software requirements.

  1. Allan Wood on

All of the flashlights that you reviewed require, at a minimum, access to your camera and microphone. Some require access to files, phones, and phone data, WHY?

    • Sam on

Hey Allan, yes, flashlight apps require usage of camera. That is how they work. However as you said some requires access to files and phone data. There could be genuine use of these, but some apps would try to collect as many details as possible to suck it up in the cloud. May be to sell it to advertisers or may be not. I would be really cautious on what app I install and what permissions I give them. If a flashlight app requires my location, phone data and other private information, I would be little cautious on this.

  2. Tactical Michael on

Thanks for the list, the best flashlight is always the one that you have with you and you use. I personally prefer to have a keychain flashlight with me that is better than any phone would be, also this does not drain my phone battery.

  3. Scott Allen on

Is there any flashlight app that starts with the light on? If you’re trying to get light quickly it’s annoying to have to start the app and then have to turn the light on. My wife’s phone has an app called Utility Light that works this way, but I can’t find anything in the Play Store.

    • Dani on

We have listed DroidLight LED Flashlight app as first. It does what you want for. Another method is you can have flashlight widget as well.

  4. Huy on

Thanks. I was looking for a free flash light app without ads and your result is the only one I can find. The TeslaLED app design is a bit outdated but it works fine.

  5. Morgan on

There should be no more permission than access to camera & camera flashlight (+ internet access if its ad supported).
Personally I use 2 flashlight apps:Tiny Flashlight & Multifunction Flashlight

Both have ads in them and therefor needs access to Internet, but aside from that they have just basic permissons to the camera.

  6. Alv on

Hi I recently had a baby and am looking for a flashlight that will automatically activate by a certain movement of the actual device – lets say like shaking it – so I can check in on the baby when she cries in the dark.

    Any ideas?

  7. Droid Ash on

Thanks for sharing this nice post about best Android flashlight apps. Color Flashlight is really cool and full of robust features.
    Keep it up.
