Tower defense games have been around for a very long time but they never felt as natural as they feel on a touchscreen device. Here are some amazing tower defense games for Android that will keep you hooked for a very long time. I’m a huge fan of the genre and have enjoyed countless titles across multiple platforms. From playing tower defense modes made for Warcraft to enjoying hundreds of hours of Dungeon Defenders, I have thoroughly experienced what this type of game has to offer.
Thankfully, the basic essence of a tower defense game translates so well on Android that you won’t even feel the need of a controller here. As a matter of fact, I actually prefer to have touchscreen control over traditional keyboard and mouse or controller control schemes.
If you are not familiar with the genre, it basically revolves around making defenses and enduring waves after waves of enemies. It is a very rewarding experience and there is quite a bit of strategy at work here. Usually multiple types of enemies are dealt with using different types of towers or weapons, which keeps the gameplay fresh for a long time and allows you to experiment with different combinations.
Note: The 5 tower defense games for Android were tested on a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone. I played around 30 minutes of each game and all of them performed perfectly fine. You may need an active Internet connection to access some features but it is not mandatory. I highly recommend using a tablet to play the games because the large screen makes micromanaging easier. The games are arranged by popularity in this list.
Royal Revolt 2
This game is a blend of different gameplay mechanics but the tower defense influence is dominant over all of them. The game allows you to take control of your king and lead his army into battle. That is a pretty cool section but the real meat of the game is when someone attacks your castle and you have to defend it. You’ll need to create a deadly path for your enemies and build your kingdom to become more powerful.
There are also different events going on such as alliance wars where you can work together as a team. The game also offers many instances of collaboration between friends by forging alliances. Overall, it’s a well-polished package that rivals games such as Clash of Clans. I also really like how the game incorporates role-playing elements into it by providing different strategies to tackle a battle as well as upgrading your weaponry.Show Downloads
If you’re looking for a traditional tower defense experience on your Android device then Castle Defense is the game you should check out first. Orcs, goblins, Devils and spirits are trying to destroy your kingdom and it’s up to you to build defenses and stop them. You have different options at your disposal, you can choose the wizard, the Paladin or the barbarian as your warrior and apply them into the battlefields. With their own advanced weaponry, they can either stop or kill enemies on their own.
There are 4 basic towers that can be developed into a different premier ones with all having different models and functionality. One of the best part of the game is combining the towers and making short work of your enemies. There are 15 maps drawn in cartoon style that look stellar on any Android screen. Once you’re done with the 15 challenging levels, you can head over online and test your mantle against other players.Show Downloads
Kingdom Rush is one of the best tower defense games for Android simply because of the amount of action happening on one screen. The game cleverly uses 2-D sprites and models to save precious resources and then ramps up the action on screen without any kind of slow down to performance. Don’t get me wrong, I love simple graphics but this game has some of the best animations I’ve seen on any tower defense games.
There are 8 specialized towers that are upgradable to customize your strategy. With the war 18 tower abilities and 50 different enemies, you’ll have no shortage of options available at your command. You can even command your soldiers and engage them in hand-to-hand battles. The best thing about this game is its epic boss battles; the bosses all come with their unique abilities and have the potential to ruin your perfectly placed towers if left unchecked.Show Downloads
Are you in the market for a simple tower defense game that doesn’t over complicate things? Or you probably have kids that don’t really understand the concept of placing towers on a huge map? Defender II is a game made just for you. Waves upon waves of monsters are trying to attack your castle and you need to defend it against them. You cannot only place defensive towers, but also manually attack the enemy hoards with different weapons and spells.
Upgrading your city walls is a great way to make your castle stronger and launching arrows on enemies is one of the best ways to get rid of them. The simple drag and drop spell execution is fairly well executed, pun intended. Overall the game is simple than the rest of the games on the list and will keep your kids entertained for quite some time. I recommend this game if you want to introduce someone to the tower defense genre.Show Downloads

These are some of the best tower defense games for Android available right now. I personally love tower defense games simply because they can be played with one hand, I usually drink tea with the other. This is the type of game that immediately rewards or punishes you for your decisions. For example, if you place the wrong tower at the wrong place, the enemies will make short work of your defenses.
