Android Easter Eggs: What Are They and How Do You Use Them?
Whether you are new to Android phones or you’ve been around for a while, you may be surprised to learn about the multiple hidden features that Google has put into the Android platform. Perhaps one of the best-kept secrets that many Android users aren’t aware of are the Android Easter Eggs.
Accessing Android Easter Eggs
From the time Android started, Android users have always loved to explore and discover what they can do with their phone. This lead to Android developers putting in some occasional surprises in the system which only those who love tinkering with their phone can discover. These surprises are referred to as Android Easter Eggs, and the best known – and most fun – Android Easter Eggs are the mini games.
Of course, not all of us have the time or interest to go digging through every little menu in our Android device’s settings, so I’m going to just show you how to access your Android Easter Egg mini game.
It takes less than a minute and is super simple. Here is what you have to do:
- Open your Settings.
- Scroll down and look for the “System” option and open it.
- Look for the “About Phone” option and open it.
- Find the “Android Version” tab.
- Rapidly press the “Android Version” tab until something pops up. Usually what pops up is the icon of your latest Android Version.
Hidden Games to Unlock
After unlocking the secret, you can now play the secret game on your Android version. The games are unique, and some of them are spin-offs of the most popular game of the century. Here are some of the games or tricks you can find, depending on your version of Android:
- Android 8.0 – The latest version allows you to play around and control some sea creatures on your phone.
- Android 7.0 – A spin-off based on a popular Japanese mobile game, Neko Atsume – Android Neko. The game is pretty cute, and you can even feed the cats.
- Android 6.0 and 5.0 – A spin-off to Flappy Bird that is fun and addictive.

Seems like a waste of space? …….
Hi Feebz, thanks for sharing your thoughts to us. Congratulations on finding the easter egg for Android Oreo. True, it can be a waste of space but it’s designed to be a reward system for those who like tinkering their devices. Furthermore, such easter egg wouldn’t take that much space. In our opinion, it should be taking less than 1MB of space.
Same here. How about a months free phone services
I followed your steps and an old screen saver I had used popped up. Overlaying the screensaver is an image of 2 orange circles inside each other. In the middle is a white circle.it pulses colour if I tap it, but does nothing else. It us quite useless just feels like an uninvited foreign body in my phone.
Is there no risk with these…..malware or worse?
Did as instructed all I see is an orange circle with white center. Does absolutely Nothing. How can this be considered a “reward”. Should be called a Waste of Time if anything
I’m sorry to hear that, Nunya
After you get done tapping it multiple times hold it down
I got locked out of my phone even though my pin is 100% accurate. After that I can only access the “top drop-down bar” (I don’t know what it’s called) and I saw the android Easter egg icon there. If this is their idea of a gift, I dont want one.
Try pressing down and holding the white circle in the center a few seconds
I found my Easter egg, thought it was a virus…lol! I got the letter N each line in a pastel color, which I believe is the Japanese version game for my Android device…. 7. Something. Now I need to see what to do with it.
Yeah…found the empty dish in my short cut drop screen… ? dish…bits..? fish..chicken. Wtf? I found it because a mini clip 8ball pool gameis throwing my local off to the middle east… The icon ended up sayin..”android east/…”.. Thought i found my issue. (Such a reward)???????
And and I can’t unlock the phone even now. (Right now using a different one)
I thought it was neat. ?
