Being open-source, Android is a great example of a mobile operating system made for the people. They’ve got a great system going on where we, the smartphone consumers, tell them what we want to see, and they show it to us in the next update. It’s all fine and dandy, and clearly, Android is doing its job pretty well.
But, being an easily customizable operating system has its hurdles. For example, there are some applications we cannot take advantage of in the Google Play Store. This is where APK files come into play.
Well, with that being said, there are some things you have to do before jumping onto your desktop and downloading every APK file you can get your hands on. Firstly, you should exercise caution when downloading APK files from unknown sources. Check the comments every once in a while to make sure you’re downloading from a trustworthy source.
Second, you should enable the “Unknown Sources” option in the security tab of you Android phone or tablet. Having this feature off by default is just a mild precaution that OEMs take so that you do not screw up your brand new device. You can enable this option by going to Menu > Settings > Security > and check the “Unknown Sources” box before you do anything stupid.
But, hold on there! You do need an APK file installer for installing those particular Applications or Games.
Sure, there is already a built-in app installer on every version of Android. But, the app installer applications we’re going to talk about here add more functionality than what you’re used to.
So, without ado, here are the best app Installer applications for Android.
1. APK Installer (mobile manager)
What led to this seemingly random application snagging the top position on this list?
When I say, I’ve tested a dozen different Android app installers and this one takes the cake, I mean it. It has a beautiful, modern-looking user interface (UI) that is sure to stun you the first time you see it. The main menu is divided into 4 metro-looking icons, and the rest of the application goes along the same way.
It’s not only the looks that led it to dominate this list. The sheer functionality it holds is also sure to grab your attention.
Along with installing APK files, this application will backup up apps, and share them through any means available on your Android phone or tablet. Also, it has a built-in security scanner, that is sure to help if you’ve downloaded and were about to install a malware-filled APK file.
2. Gemini installer and clear
Albeit, not one of the prettiest Android app installers on this list, it didn’t fail to surprise me. Don’t fall for its seemingly mundane user interface. This Android app installer application is a powerhouse!
The amount of functionality it provides is unbelievable. It has no advertisements (good riddance!). It has a built-in app manager (although you need to install another application by the same developer), and the ability to clear all app caches, including the search results of particular applications and call logs.
It shows the permissions you’ve set for specific applications, and also has a scanner.
It can categorize applications based on a plethora of different criteria, and also supports batch installing and uninstalling. Now, don’t get me wrong, its user interface isn’t that bad, but it could use some tweaking. This application also has an “expert mode” for donators.
3. Easy APK Installer
This Android app installer is very suitable for the newbies to the Android scene. The app is a very user-friendly user interface that does not have a Pandora’s Box of different functions backed into it. I would say this application does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Something definitely on the better side of this application is that you can manage all your APK files at a glance.
You can manage:
- Applications that are not installed on the device will have a gray colored overlay on it.
- Applications that are already installed will be shaded green.
- Applications that are outdated and have a relatively recent version of it will be colored orange.
It also supports Bluetooth sharing. It’s very customizable because it supports themes; 2 of them, in fact.
Although the user interface lacks functionality and it supports advertising, I would say that this Android app installer is not half-bad.
4. Easy Installer -apps on SD
Not to make it sound too much like the Android app installer mentioned above, but it has, essentially, the same functions of an average Android app installer
It shows you which applications you have installed and which applications that have to be installed. It has a normal, user-friendly interface, and you also have the ability to install and delete apps from the SD card.
Batch installing and uninstalling is supported, and you’re able to share the applications through any means available on your Android phone or tablet. There are various sort modes, or you can filter applications according to name.
5. App Installer
Right away you’ll notice this Android app installer is the simplest of the bunch. It does what it’s supposes to do, really well. If you want an Android app installer that only has functions based on its what it’s intended use is, this is the right application for you.
While it has the most minimalistic and user-friendly interface out of the 4 listed above, you’re also getting an application manager, built-in. It can arrange files before folders in search mode too.
It supports advertising, yes, but if you want an application that is minimalistic, and performs only a single function, then this is the way to go. The minimalistic nature of this Android app installer gives it the slight edge over the others by having the smallest APK file size.
All in all, there are more than a dozen good Android app installers on the Google Play Store, but testing each one and finding the best ones for you guys was no easy feat. But, there is one point I would like to make, and that is there are no ‘perfect’ Android app installers. Each one has its own flaws and I suggest you accept it for what it is.
