Temp Stick is perhaps the most reliable, accurate and simple to use wireless temperature sensor we’ve seen. The Temp Stick is a smart sensor that can be set up almost anywhere – with incredibly easy installation.
Battery life is excellent – depending on how often you pull accumulated data, they can last up to a year, so you don’t have to worry about changing them for a long time.
The range of temperature that it can measure reaches from -40°F to 125°F, meaning this device is suitable for any environment from cold storage to home temperature. Its accuracy is within 0.7 degrees, which is usually more than enough. However, it can be improved with additional sensors – that can be monitored through the same app.
A downside to the Temp Stick is that it can’t show you real-time data – it is limited to time intervals from hourly to every 5 minutes. We feel that for the price this device comes with, it could have been a useful feature.
We like how the manufacturer gives you total control over the desired data – you can set your own hi-lo triggers, chose between Celsius and Fahrenheit or customize how you want the alerts to be.
The sensor communicates the monitored data to a server where it is logged.
You can program it to set a temperature limit. Once that is exceeded, you will receive messages or emails to as many accounts as you like. However, you can also log into your account and specify how frequently you want the device to report data – keeping in mind the battery life.

Because of its small dimensions, this device is a perfect temperature monitoring system for monitoring display cabinets, instrument cases or any delicate space. Don’t be fooled by how little it is – it’s quite powerful and accurate.
The small size is really an advantage. Battery life could be more than a year if it’s not placed in freezing environments.
The set up is a piece of cake – all you have to do is download the phone app available and hold your phone close to the device so the Bluetooth pairing can be completed. What we’d improve in this device is the Wi-Fi connection. There is an option for this, but it will cost extra.
This little one comes with an impressive range of 325 feet – but only in an uninterrupted line of sight. Apparently, and obstacles between the sensor and your phone reduce the signal quality.
The SensorPush takes readings every minute – providing closer to real-time measurement than the Temp Stick – while also storing the last 20 days of data on the device.
However, the device will need to be calibrated from time to time, as there can be inconsistencies in the stored data – a 5 degrees difference between 2 devices placed in the same room. Nothing that is not solvable, though.

This affordable device brings a couple of new features to the table – it can also measure the temperature in water or soil, making it perfect for pools or greenhouses!
Setting it up is a breeze – after three easy steps you’ll get temperature and humidity alerts from anywhere, on any device. It has a transmission range of up to 200 feet – on a clear line of sight.
The La Crosse is also expandable, as you can add more sensors for other areas, and track them using the same app. You get a text, email or app notification when the Min/Max set conditions are exceeded, if the battery life is over or if the connection is lost.
However, there are a couple of things that we don’t like. One of the biggest issues we have is that most of the advanced features are locked behind a monthly subscription. Also, after a while there are connectivity issues and, as far as we know, there’s no fix, and you’ll need to buy a new device.
You can select how often you want to pull data. There are time intervals within 5 and 60 minutes, but, of course, the shorter the range, the more battery it consumes.
However, there have been reported connectivity issues after the power goes out or after the internet is shut down – this could be a problem for remote monitoring.
iHome iSS50 5-in-one Smartmonitor
Besides being able to measure temperature and humidity, this device can track movement, light levels and detect sound. Also, this versatility is augmented by the support it has for many 3rd party smart devices, making it more convenient.
Unlike the other temperature monitoring system on this list, the iHome Smartmonitor is not powered by batteries, but needs to be plugged into a socket and can work indefinitely.
The device has an LCD screen that shows the current temperature and humidity levels. However, it’s real potential is displayed within the app – there’s an overview with readings from all the sensors while letting you know if the motion is active.
The iHome sensor can also be paired with HomeKit or any other smart home hub – allowing you to use the broad array of recorded data to control almost any other smart device in your home.
There are some things we didn’t like, though. The temperature range is way reduced, compared to other similar devices and, also, it’s not water-resistant. Additional to the limitations mentioned above, the Smartmonitor being tethered to a power cord reduces the places where it can be installed and also leaves your blind in case of a power outage.
A neat feature this one has is the support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. If you feel like listening to the readings through a smart speaker – you can do that effortlessly!

However, at this price, some compromises were necessary. There is no app available, neither a web service – so you can’t store the readings anywhere. The only place where you can see the texts is the provided console and on their website, on your phone or desktop.
While having a user-friendly design, this station helps you easily monitor a plethora of sensors, indoors and outdoors. It accurately records data and transmits it over Wi-Fi, with a transmission range of up to 300 feet.
You also get a 3-feet dry probe that you can use to measure air temperature more accurately.
However, what we don’t necessarily like is that there is no way of selecting only the data you’re interested in. Both the console and the web interface are set on showing all the information – from temperature to dew point – and it can be a little too much if you only want to know how hot it is inside.
One cool feature that this device also has is its compatibility with Google Assistant and Alexa. This can come in handy, especially since the web interface is so cluttered.
This is one of the best budgets offers – it doesn’t require any other monthly subscriptions, so you know from the start exactly how much money you will invest in the device.
Like all the before mentioned devices, with this one, you can set predetermined values for temperature and humidity, and you will receive instant alerts when those values are exceeded.
But this device is a bit special since it is one of the most accurate models on the market. With a precision of 0.5 degrees Celsius and 3% for humidity, you will know precisely how the ambient in your home is. Also, user calibration is available, for even more precision.
All you need to access the alerts and recordings conveniently is a good internet connection. It’s also worth knowing that you can export the data as a CSV and analyze it if you need to.
You can also read the data from the LCD on the device if you want to see real-time values. The sensor is rapid and sensitive, so if you put warm or cold objects within its proximity, you will see changes in the values.
A Smart app is also provided, with a low battery alarm, so that you know what time to change the batteries is. Within the app, you can see an overview of the recorded data, displayed as a graph divided into 30-minutes increments that turn red if the thresholds were crossed.

Even though the price is meager, AcuRite offers a one-year warranty, to give you some peace of mind regarding the quality and performance of the device for a long time.
However, a slight drawback is the fact that you need lithium batteries for low temperatures, as alkaline ones seem to malfunction. This is a disclaimer that comes with the instructions manual. Once this problem arises, you have to bring the unit in, re-insert the batteries and calibrate it with the other unit.
You can read the data on the integrated LCD – the readings are very accurate – but we think it would have been great if it was back-lit, to be readable in the dark also.
However, at this price range, of course, some compromises had to be made. For what it offers, we think this is an excellent device for simple temperature measurements for an average user.
