4 Fantastic FPS Games for Android

First person shooters are one of the main genres of videogames. It started back with the time of Doom, and now it is one of the bestselling genres on the planet. So, what if you are out and about and want to jump in on a bit of action yourself? You can play one of these great FPS games for Android.

I understand that not every genre translates well to the touch screen nature of Android and frankly speaking, FPS is one of them. Don’t get me wrong, the games are perfectly playable and thoroughly entertaining. However, if you are somewhat of a competitive type, you will have a hard time accepting defeat, thanks to somewhat clunky controls. I for one started using a controller with my smartphone to gain the edge in competitive multiplayer games and would recommend that you do so as well.

FPS Games for Android also happen to have some of the best visuals in town. One of the games made it to our best looking games on Android as well as best 3D graphics in games list. If you are in the market for a single player first person shooter, this list has a few games just for you.

Note: The best FPS Games for Android were tested on a Samsung Galaxy Note III smartphone. The games worked wonderfully on the hardware, and no problems were faced during testing. Almost all the games have a large size, so it is advisable that you use a WiFi internet connection to download them. You will also need an active and stable internet connection if you want to access online multiplayer sections of the games.

1. Modern Combat 5 – Blackout

Icon Modern Combat 5 Blackout

Apart from having a cookie cutter story that mimics Call of Duty games, Modern Combat 5 is one amazing game. I have listed the game again and again in multiple lists before and will continue to do so until the developer releases the much awaited 6th installment of the series. The game started off as a direct Call of Duty replacement on mobile devices and since then it has gone through a lot of changes. From improving the controls to implementing a sharper AI, the game has improved a ton over the last couple of years.

The first person head shots are something else in the game. The bullets have an actual thump and weight to them and the person being shot usually reacts appropriately. The pre-baked lighting in the game also looks phenomenal. However, the multiplayer mode where Modern Combat 5 really shines. Taking cues from COD once again, the multiplayer is a rewarding and fun ride.

I highly recommend that you get a controller to play multiplayer matches because the rest of the world is already playing with them. There is no way anyone can have this much accuracy with touch screens as you may have noticed that I’m kind of bitter about being killed 13 times in one match. The game rightfully deserves a spot on the best multiplayer games on Android list.

2. DEAD TRIGGER 2

By now you must have gotten tired of me pushing Dead Trigger 2 in every list. If you haven’t played this masterpiece by now, I have failed as a writer. The game was featured in 10 free shooter games for Android, and there is a good reason behind that. It is without a doubt one of the few apps that doesn’t unnecessarily force you to make in-app purchases.

Dead Trigger 2 is about surviving the zombie apocalypse and shooting zombies, but more about shooting zombies than surviving. The game takes cues from games like Left 4 Dead and Dead Island but in all honesty, features graphics that can rival those games.

The catch is that those games were made for PC and consoles. Dead Trigger 2 features a ton of weapons, a lot of ways to play and a gazillion zombies to shoot. I don’t think you can ask more from a game that is essentially costing you zero dollars.

3. Sniper Fury

It was only a matter of time when Gameloft lifted the gameplay mechanic of another popular gaming franchise. Sniper Fury is Sniper Elite just ported over to mobile platforms and streamlined for quick bouts of gaming. Don’t get me wrong, I love Gameloft a ton, this list is populated 80% with the games they made.  Sniper Fury, as the name suggests is a game about sniping other people and not be furious about it.

The game uses the same slow motion bullet cam to show off your kills which is pretty epic on a smartphone. We have seen that same cinematic feature used in Max Payne, Fallout and even Sniper Elite before and it looks so much better on Android. The gameplay is simple and stylized, you are sent on assassination missions that sometimes have some specific conditions. Aiming and shooting is done in a fairly standard way but the scope controls are something new.

4. Blitz Brigade

Team Fortress 2 is one of the most played free to play games on PC. Blitz Brigade tries the same formula for Android but in First Person Shooter mode. I have to admit, I went in expecting another lackluster online multiplayer game on Android but came out a fan.

The game runs incredibly smooth and the user interface is beyond satisfactory. There is a reason why Gameloft is the Valve of Android gaming and it shows. I love the art style of the game, loved how well the levels are designed and absolutely adored the great team based gameplay.

While the multiplayer is absolutely stellar, the game doesn’t even have a single player mode at all. This is perhaps why the developer team focused fully on the multiplayer and delivered a polished experience.

Conclusion

These were a few amazing FPS Games for Android. I would wholeheartedly recommend a controller for any of these games, trust me; it is a game changer. I would never play a competitive game on Android without a controller, and after you have scored amazing yourself, you won’t go back either.

So what are your thoughts about these first person games for Android? Is there any other game that deserves to be on the list? Do shoot some comments in first person below.
