While a ton of them were great the Gmail one was bugging me for some reason. I really wanted to take that icon and edit the hell out of it. Unfortunately, there was no such app that would help me do so. And in the end, I had to turn to one of the best launchers for Android and install an icon pack for Android on it.

Sure, it was not the perfect solution but it did the job for me. I am pretty sure this solution will help you as well. Note: The three best icon editor apps for Android were tested on a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 smartphone. Apps performed perfectly and there were no problems faced during testing.

1. Iconic

Iconic is the best app in the list and comes with an incredibly detailed interface. I had absolutely no qualms with this app, as it provides everything you would need. Basic users who are not looking for power tools on Android will be quite happy using this app. The app already comes with over 3000 free icons which you can freely edit and make your own.

I really like how the app categorizes different icon sets according to their design. These days, having a material design is on the forefront, and a lot of icon packs are going for the same look. Even Samsung has started to implement material design icons on their own Android skin. With this app, you will be able to create icons which are exportable up to a resolution of 2048×2048 pixels.

The app also gives you templates to design icons for future use and editing. Iconic also allows you to export images in various resolutions at the very same time. This gives you the freedom to tinker your creations on a proper PC-based image editing software.

I also like how the app gives you the option of using long and short shadows in your creations. Personally, I use this application numerous times while designing buttons for clients and it has never disappointed me so far. I admit, I’m not the best designers around, so Iconic actually helps me nail down that one perfect look easily.

This is a fun to use and entertaining icon app for Android. The app features daily high-quality icons made by other creative people from all over the world. This is basically an app that allows you to see which kind of icons are trending in the market and gain inspiration for your own work.

That’s not all; you can also make your own icons using various sources. One of the best features of this app is the option of creating high-quality icons just from a photograph. Almost all Android devices come equipped with a camera these days and using this app you can snap a shot and make an icon in almost no time at all.

3. Icon Creator

Icon Creator is a straightforward app about editing and making new icons. There are many options for you to choose from, but the app doesn’t offer the depth many professionals seek. If you’re just casually aiming to conjure up an icon, then this app will do the job pretty well. You can use an image to create an icon, even use standardized clipart for them and also have the option of adding text to the foreground.

This comes in handy when you are creating an icon representing an app. The padding, the color and the shape of the icon are customizable. Although the shapes included are only feel, square and circle but these are the most common ones being used these days, so it’s not a big problem. You will also be able to change the effects applicable on the icons. Dog ear, score and even long shadow are available to be applied to icons.

These were a few icon editor apps for Android and these are the only good ones I could find on the Google play store. I know, these are not what you were looking for but this is as close as to having a proper icon editor we could find. I really wish that manufacturers allow us to easily edit system icons without the need of rooting. I would have been okay with rooting but it also voids the warranty, so it is hard to recommend to everyone. Android is a very open platform and I believe there should be an easier option to edit the icons.

What do you think about these apps? Will they be able to fulfill your needs? I would love to hear from you in the comments below.
