Troubleshooting 7 LG G Flex Problems to Keep It Running Like New

The LG G Flex was a unique smartphone, and we all know that the first run of any product is bound to have some problems. We have some of the most common LG G Flex problems and their troubleshooting below. Look through the solutions to find one that works for you.

Even though the smartphone has been out for almost 2 years, it’s still popular among people who wanted a unique device. There are some unique aspects of the smartphone that aren’t available on any other product released in recent times. The rarefied features make the problems the smartphone faces are quite rare as well.

The LG G Flex problems and their troubleshooting address major problems the smartphone has. Most of them are because of the curved screen, and that is very much understandable. This was perhaps the first mainstream smartphone to feature a curved display back in 2013, and it failed to garner a large interest.

However, the slight curvature of the screen made it extremely comfortable to hold during phone calls. So without further ado let’s jump into the most problematic LG G Flex problems and their troubleshooting.

Problem 1 – The Screen Bumps

LG G Flex has the word “flex” in the name because well it can actually flex. So naturally your first instinct would be to iron out the curve in the phone and make it flatter. However, this is an extremely bad idea and you should never do that. But you have done that and now your phone feels a little bumpy.

A lot of people have done this and reported about having uneven bumps on their touchscreen smartphone. Using a touchscreen smartphone with bumps is not a very smooth experience.

  1. The LG G Flex is supposed to go back to its normal position after you’ve done messing with it. I’m not just saying that, it’s the actual technology behind the smartphone that allows it to “heal” itself. So you can simply wait until the bumps are gone and there is a very slim chance that you will actually damage this phone.
  2. You can press on the screen to make it go away. Think of it as a plastic plate that has been dented and your simply helping it smooth out. But as it is a very barbaric method, there is a chance that you may do permanent damage to your device. Simply think of that disposable water bottle you just crumpled, it may not go back to its original form without damage.

Problem 2 – The Ghosting Problem

The LG G Flex uses a P-OLED (plastic OLED) display that is able to withstand the curve. However, when you switch from dark images to relatively light ones you may see the old image on the screen as well. While it is not as clear as the new image, it is still there and you can easily spot it.

  1. There is no permanent solution to this problem. It is a limitation of the hardware and there is nothing we can do about it. However, you can turn the brightness down to avoid this ghosting problem.

While it is not a sure-fire method, at least the retained image won’t be as noticeable. This is perhaps the only bad thing about this technology and unfortunately, there is no solution.

Problem 3 – The Audio Quality

Some owners of the smartphone have reported that the audio coming out from the LG G Flex speaker is distorted. Some are also reporting popping noises coming out from the speaker which is definitely not what it’s supposed to do.

  1. You can use an equalizer app for android to find the best settings that eliminate distortion.
  2. Alternatively you can head over to the LG music player and try to find best mix of settings.
  3. If all fails, you can always use a good quality headphone or earphones with the LG G Flex and enjoy excellent sound quality.

Problem 4 – The Noisy Image

Some users have complained about a grainy looking screen on their LG G Flex. The smartphone already comes with a very lower resolution of only 720 P on a 6 inch screen, but a lot of people have complained about the image being noisy and grainy.

  1. As this is a hardware issue, there are not a lot of ways we can solve this problem. The way is to reduce the graininess of the image and that can be achieved by cranking up the brightness of the screen. In order to do so go to System Settings > Display > Brightness and dial the brightness above 80%.

This will reduce the graininess of the screen but may drain your battery a little bit faster. Not a perfect solution, but it reduces the noise on the screen so the trade-off is worth it.

Problem 5 – Bluetooth Not Connecting

Some people have complained about Bluetooth not connecting with other devices. Some reports are about shoddy audio quality on Bluetooth enabled devices like headsets and portable speakers. Here are some solutions to the problem.

  2. Try a soft reset. You can do that by pressing and holding the power button until the phone restarts.
  3. Make sure that the headset or speaker you are using is actually compatible with your smartphone.
  4. You can also try restarting the Bluetooth on the smartphone itself.
  5. You can also try removing the saved pairing and start all over.
  6. Sometimes the power saving modes of smartphones turn off the Bluetooth. Make sure you are not on any kind of battery saver mode.

Problem 6 – Mobile Data Connectivity

The LG G Flex might have some problems with mobile data connections. Users have reported that they lost the data connection abruptly and sometimes were not able to connect the internet. While this can easily be pinned on your carrier, you can try out a few steps before pinning it on them.

  2. A simple restart can help you in solving the problem. Press the power button until a menu pops up. Select the restart option and you are good to go

Problem 7 – Random Crashes

The LG G Flex is prone to random, unexplained crashes. Almost every phone in existence can have some crashes but if it is happening at an alarming frequency, there is something definitely wrong here. If it is happening to you as well, you can try out the following solutions to solve the problem.

  1. Your first step should be to know if some app is going rogue behind the lines. In order to do so, you will need to boot up the phone in safe mode. Press and hold the physical power button until a menu pops up. Press and hold the “Power off” on the menu till you see the “Safe Mode” on the bottom left side of the display.

1. Tap on it and the smartphone will boot up in safe mode. See if the crashes occur or not. If not, an app is interfering with the smartphone and forcing it to restart. Locate the app and either disable or remove it.

  1. If all else fails, you can do a full factory reset of the smartphone. This is the nuclear option and should be used as a last resort. You should make backups of all your data and photos before doing this though as it will remove everything from the phone.
