You can now hide the “likes” counter on your Facebook and Instagram
“Likes” on Facebook and Instagram is the focal feature and we can’t imagine these apps without it. However, there has been many discussions online that they somehow cause more stress for some users.
It seems that users are keener to get more likes on these platforms and keep checking whether they get more and more likes in a single post. And the same goes for influencers in the platform –– this is the basis of how influential they are in their own fields.
Years ago, Instagram had already started testing out a feature that hides “likes” counter on the app. And last month, Instagram has successfully tested it out on its app but instead of completely hiding the “likes” counter, users now have the option to turn the feature on.
Currently, as of Wednesday, the option to hide the “likes” counter on your Facebook and Instagram posts has become available to its users.
In a blog post, every user now has the option to see the likes of his/her posts. Also, users now have the option to publicly display their “likes” counter for other users to see.
Facebook has been working to remedy the increasing criticisms that social media platforms such as theirs and Instagram’s can be harmful to the well-being of users and society in general.
Instagram, a Facebook-owned app, also considered removing the “likes” counter from the app completely.
But, the company says that it opts to make the feature at the user’s discretion in order for those who prefer to “focus on the photos and videos being shared, instead of how many likes posts get,” while still leaving the functionality in the app intact.
What we heard from people and experts was that not seeing like counts was beneficial for some and annoying to others, particularly because people use like counts to get a sense of what’s trending or popular, so we’re giving you the choice.According to Facebook
Furthermore, if users decide to opt-out of sharing public “likes” on their posts, other users will still be able to see a list of who liked the post, however, the number of likes it got will be hidden. And the person who posted the photo will still be able to see the number of likes, even if not displayed publicly.
How to hide likes and views on your Instagram post?
Again, the feature to hide likes and views on your Instagram posts should be turned on manually. Unfortunately, there is no default way to activate the feature on all your posts.
This prevents other users from seeing how many likes on your posts, yet, you will still get notifications whenever your posts gets likes.
Steps to hide likes on a new post on Instagram
1. Go to “Advanced Settings” at the bottom of the final editing screen. This is the part where you add your caption.
2. Enable “Hide Likes and View count for this post.”
3. Go back to the editing screen. Tap the checkmark to create your post.
Steps to hide likes on existing posts on Instagram
1. Start with an existing post on Instagram.
2. Click on the three-dot icon that is located in the upper-right corner.
3. Select “Hide Like Count.”
4. Repeat these steps on the post you want your “likes” counter to be hidden.
Steps to hide likes and views of other people’s posts
1. Go to your Settings on your Instagram profile.
2. Then, go to Posts.
3. Toggle Hide Like and View counts.” After this, you will no longer see likes and views from other people’s posts.
