For months now, we all watched as the entire globe battles the harsh spread of the coronavirus.
With the continuous spread of this pandemic, we have watched as our economy plummets down. Both big corporations and small and local businesses have been affected by this.
Since almost everyone is staying at home, e-commerce and online shopping have been utilized to the maximum. But even that, businesses are still facing big losses.
And to help counter that, Google is adding a new way for people to support local businesses with a few additional features in business profiles.
Google lets local business listings feature donation and gift card links
Are you already missing that quaint little coffee shop you used to frequent before quarantine started? Have you been craving for a slice of that local pizza shop just a few blocks from your place?
Well, it is safe to say that we all have been missing on our favorite local and small businesses. With almost everyone staying at home, these businesses have also been greatly affected.
Now here’s some good news:
In a blog posted by Google, the tech giant has made an announcement that it will support these local enterprises in these trying times. The idea of this initiative is to help out smaller and local businesses.
With the Program Manager, Local SMD Products, Dominique McGowan taking over in the blog, Google has added tools to facilitate both these businesses and as well as the customers.
These tools include updated business hours and so on (since most areas have respective curfews, operating hours for these businesses have been affected too).
And as for the main introduction, Google is adding support links for businesses that will be added directly to their business profiles that are visible on Google searches.
Donation and gift card links to local businesses
Now, let us break down what these links include.
We are all aware that not all local businesses have an active online presence and with the lockdown implementation, some don’t even break even. These links may be in the form of gift cards, donation links, and the likes.
These donation links are meant to help these businesses with patrons and customers who wish to do so.
Businesses will then have an option to share information with the customers as well. This would tell them how the acquired funds are being used, just to give the donors peace of mind.
At launch, we’ve partnered with PayPal and GoFundMe for donations. For gift cards, merchants can link directly to the relevant page on their website or to their gift card offerings with one of our eligible partners, which includes Square, Toast, Clover and Vagaro.
The service is being currently rolled out and will be expected to be visible by the end of this month. Google has started off showing this feature in some major countries such as:
- United States
- United Kingdom
- New Zealand
Hopefully, the worldwide rollout would come to your countries very soon.
We are already all in this together in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Now, let us support local businesses so we will still see them all after this ends.
