Google resumes Android Q Beta 5 rollout to Pixel phones after temporarily suspending it
On Wednesday, Google began rolling out its latest Android Q beta 5. The update has brought in a few tweaks to third-party launchers, new swipe gesture to command the Google Assistant and a new swipe to pull-down notifications gesture.
The latest beta is also set to bring in theming support to Pixel phones. However, Google has announced on Reddit that it will temporarily suspend the OTA rollout to fix an issue relating to installing updates.
We’re aware of an issue with Android Q Beta 5 related to installing updates. We’ve temporarily paused Beta 5 OTA updates to all Pixel devices as we investigate the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience, and will provide this post once the issue is resolved.
But after that brief suspension, Google is now back to rolling out the latest beta in a post in their Reddit page. The update is designed for testing purposes. It is also available as an over-the-air (OTA) bundle for Pixel smartphones.
Android Q Beta 5 rollout has been resumed
The rollout was pulled out because of installation issues. Google has posted an official statement announcing that the rollout has been resumed.
Thank you for your patience as we investigate the issue, which is putting a very small percentage of devices back on Beta 4 after multiple reboots. We have now resumed the Beta 5 OTA rollout.
It is also unclear whether Google was able to fix the issues before continuing with the Android Q beta 5 rollout. According to the post, only “a very small percentage of devices” has been affected by the issue.
However, an updated Reddit post suggests beta testers to capture a bug report, file the bug and provide a feedback using the Android Beta Feedback app. Click on this link to know the steps on how to capture the bug.
The latest Beta 5 is available for the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL smartphones. If users would like to participate in the latest update and are already on Android Q beta 4, you can proceed in installing the latest beta through the following steps: go to your phone’s Settings > System > Advanced > System updates.
