The year 2019 brought in a slew of 5G smartphones. These smartphones have been launched into several markets that already got their 5G coverage.
Because these smartphones use the latest technology to get 5G support, it is expected to be expensive. And are you sure that you are getting your money’s worth? Given that the 5G coverage is limited to some areas, that is really hard to answer.
If the reason last year for not getting a 5G smartphone was its expensive price tag and 5G coverage too limited, then this one might change your mind.
This year at the CES 2020, a brand new smartphone has just been announced that is 5G compatible. And this device is the cheapest 5G smartphone yet.
Coolpad announces cheapest 5G smartphone
What comes to mind when we talk about 5G smartphones? I bet Coolpad does not cross your mind at all. But now is the time that you get used to the name as the company is set to unveil the cheapest 5G smartphone yet in the United States.
When more popular 5G phones hit the market in 2019 like the Galaxy S10 5G, OnePlus 7 Pro, and the LG V50 5G, their price ranges from $800 – $1,000. Can you imagine how crazy expensive that is?
Featuring the latest high-speed mobile connectivity comes with a price. Unfortunately, we all had to accept the fact that the only way to get our hands on 5G smartphones is by buying any of the already mentioned brands.
How much do you think Coolpad’s 5G smartphone would cost?
If you haven’t guessed it by now, Coolpad’s Legacy 5G smartphone is priced at $400. However, there are a few compromises compared to premium 5G smartphones, but that might not matter to users looking for a budget-friendly handset that can surf the web at 5G speeds, right?

A 5G handset with a $400 price tag, what do you get out of the box?
The handset comes with a large 6.53-inch full HD display screen. Also, the screen features a notch that houses the 16-megapixel front-facing camera as well as a thicker bezel at the bottom.
On the back, there are two rear cameras: a 48-megapixel and an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens. The back is also where the fingerprint sensor is. Additionally, the rear panel is made of plastic and not metal.
But that’s not all… Another compromise is the device’s performance. Instead of a high-end CPU, you will find a Snapdragon 7250 chipset powering the Legacy 5G. You will also find a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, a microSD support and a 4,000 mAh battery to power up the whole device.
Furthermore, Coolpad’s Legacy also has Bluetooth 5.0 and USB-C connectivity. Finally, a 3.5mm headphone jack that still remains a need and a want for many users.
