Samsung-Galaxy-S20-Ultra

The Leaked Images of Samsung S21 Series Reveal Major Upgrades

It has been a pretty exciting year for Samsung fans with the release of the S20 and the UI One 3.0. And it looks like early next year is about to get a lot more exciting, considering the leaked images and specs of Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.

The Samsung S21 series is tipped to be launched in January 2021 and is expected to include the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra models.

The leaked images and specks of the Galaxy S21 and S21 Ultra reveal a major design upgrade in the rear camera module.

Key Highlights

  • The S21 Ultra would be the high-end flagship phone in the S21 series
  • The S21 has a triple rear camera while S21 has a quadruple camera module
  • The front camera will feature a center punch-hole design
The Camera

The leaked model designs of both, Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Ultra, show that the phones will get a new rear camera design. The glass of the camera module curves into the corner frame. The camera bump looks effectively reduced from that of the S20 and is estimated to be around 1.1mm thickness for the Galaxy S21 and 1.9mm for the Ultra. The former has triple cameras with the flashlight located separately from the camera module while the latter has four cameras and the flashlight placed in a rectangular module. The center-positioned punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera is similar to that of the S20. The S21 Ultra will have a 40MP selfie camera and a 108MP primary rear camera.

The Body and Display

The standard Galaxy S21 is expected to have a 6.2-inch display and the dimensions are said to be 151.7 x 71.2 x 7.9mm. The Galaxy S21 Ultra will have a bigger screen and measure 165.1 x 75.6 x 8.9mm and will sport a 6.7-inch or 6.9-inch screen. The fingerprint sensor can be expected to be placed under the screen. The power button and volume keys are positioned on the right side of the frame. The absence of under the screen selfie camera is a tad bit of a disappointment for expectant fans. But, the Dynamic AMOLED 2X display is definitely a show-stealer. The phones are expected to be available in 2 color variants: Black and Silver.

Additional System Specs

Both the devices will run Android 11-based One UI 3.0. Rumors suggest the S21 Ultra to have a refresh rate of 144Hz. If not 144Hz, both the models will certainly have a refresh rate of 120Hz. Though it is unclear whether the refresh rate will be supported for the WQHD+ screen resolution, the S20 series sports the 120Hz refresh rate for the HD+ and FHD+ screen resolution–but goes down to 90Hz for the WQHD+ resolution. It would be a great improvement if the S21 series could offer a refresh rate of 120Hz at WQHD+ resolution as well.

The 2021 Samsung flagship smartphone is likely to employ the upcoming Snapdragon 875 chipset in the US and China markets and the Exynos 2100 SoC in markets such as India and European countries. The battery capacity would be 5000 mAh.

Considering the specs, the S21 ultra is likely to be a strong contender for the IPhone 12. But the major question is, how many hours will the battery last with higher refresh rates? We can’t wait to find out in January 2021!
