ZTE has successfully launched the first smartphone with a selfie camera that sits under the display. Say hello to the world’s first invisible selfie camera.
The device is called ‘Axon 20 5G’ and offers a full-screen experience. When we say full-screen, it is totally full-screen. No notch. No punch-hole, not even pop-out or flip-over camera. From top to bottom, it is just a full-screen display.
And what’s more?
The smartphone is launched in three RAM and storage combinations. Also, the device will come with a rear quad camera setup and will be powered by an octa-core processor.
Axon 20 5G specifications
ZTE’s Axon 20 5G smartphone is more than just sporting the world’s first invisible selfie camera. What’s under the hood is giving its competitors a run for their money.
The device features a 6.92-inch 1080p+ OLED display. It has an aspect ratio of 20.5:9 with a refresh rate of 90Hz as well as touch sampling rate of 240Hz which supports 10-bit color depth.
It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G SoC with 8GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage which can be expanded through a microSD card of up to 2TB.
One of its highlighted features is its capability for 5G connection. The device also supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G, GPS, NFC, and Type-C port for charging. Moreover, it will be powered by a 4,220mAh battery with 30W fast charging support.
Axon 20 5G’s performance won’t be that special. Similarly, Qualcomm’s 5G-ready Snapdragon 765G chipset is also what’s found in the OnePlus Nord, LG Velvet, Motorola Edge, and Nokia 8.3 5G. These devices are decent but have a touch slower than those high-end flagship smartphones.
And for the look of the new smartphone, the ZTE’s Axon 20 5G will be available in four color finishes: black, blue, purple, and orange.
Introducing the world’s first invisible selfie camera
And now let’s go to its camera setup…
The Axon 20 5G has a rear quad camera setup. The setup consists of a primary 64-megapixel camera sensor, a secondary 8-megapixel camera sensor, and finally two 2-megapixel camera sensors.
The most amazing point of all: an amazing 32-megapixel invisible selfie camera. And mind you, this camera is said to stay hidden even when in use.
According to ZTE, it built the selfie snapper with five “core” technologies. First, the “special material” which allows a lot of light to pour into the camera with a combination of organic and inorganic film.
The second and third components are a dual-control drive and a “unique driver circuit” which work together to synchronize the display to avoid interference.
Another is a “special matrix” that allows the display performance to be consistent while switching between photography and regular usage. Finally, ZTE has created a special algorithm that improves under-display photos.
What the fans want to see is the smartphone used in action. Many are curious whether the selfie camera can be spotted and if its photos are as stunning as promised. Unfortunately, ZTE has not shared any footage of the smartphone in action.
If ZTE can match the image and video qualities of those traditional selfie snappers, then the Axon 20 5G will be one of the most memorable smartphones this year. Or perhaps, even one of the must-haves.
